Who Is Nicola King?
The character arrived in the village to reconnect with her father, Rodney Blackstock, and meet her half-sister Bernice Blackstock.
Her confident personality, ambition and ability to involve herself in other people’s affairs quickly made her a distinctive village resident. Although frequently selfish or tactless, she has also shown considerable loyalty when her family is threatened.
Her early stories included a failed wedding to Carlos Diaz. The ceremony collapsed after she discovered that Carlos Diaz had been having an affair with Bernice Blackstock.
She later married wealthy businessman Donald De Souza, although the relationship was motivated partly by money. Following Donald De Souza’s death, she returned to using her maiden name before eventually marrying Jimmy King.

Nicola King Marriage to Jimmy King
The relationship began unexpectedly after the pair became drunk and woke up together in an Emmerdale Haulage van in 2009.
What initially appeared to be an unlikely pairing developed into one of the soap’s longest-running marriages. Their relationship included separations, financial problems, arguments and interference from former partners, but they repeatedly found their way back to each other.
The couple married in 2010 and raised Angelica King, Elliot Windsor and Carl Holliday together. Their contrasting personalities became an important part of the relationship: Jimmy King was generally easy-going, while his wife was more demanding and ambitious.

While driving near Home Farm, he swerved to avoid a vehicle driven by Vinny Dingle. Vinny Dingle had become distracted during a video call with Gabby Thomas and crossed into Jimmy King’s path.
Jimmy King’s vehicle crashed into the marquee prepared for Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate’s wedding. He suffered fatal injuries, with his wife beside him during his final moments.
The collision was initially surrounded by uncertainty. Gabby Thomas appeared suspicious, while DS Thea Ramsden investigated a second set of tyre marks. A later flashback revealed that Vinny Dingle had caused Jimmy King to swerve.
The crash also contributed to the events leading to Dawn Fletcher’s death.
What Happened to Nicola King After Jimmy’s Death?
The widow was left to organise a funeral, support the children and understand her late husband’s financial decisions.
She discovered that Jimmy King had secretly sold his shares in the Home James haulage company. The sale reportedly produced £150,000, but the money could not be found. Victoria Cottage had also been remortgaged, with payments falling behind.
Sadie King then returned and claimed that she had renewed her relationship with Jimmy King before his death. Her account has not been independently established, and her interest in the missing money gives her a reason to manipulate the grieving family.
In September 2026, Vinny Dingle finally admitted his responsibility for the crash. The confession left the widow furious, and she publicly revealed his involvement to other villagers.
Kev Townsend has provided unexpected support during her grief. The pair shared a kiss while she was distressed and intoxicated, but a new relationship has not been confirmed. Kev Townsend’s decision to conceal what he knew about the crash could now damage their developing connection.
