Our responsibility
We aim to publish accurate information, but mistakes can happen. When a factual error is identified, we review it fairly and correct it as soon as reasonably possible. Corrections are based on evidence, not on whether a person dislikes a conclusion or storyline interpretation.
How to request a correction
Use our contact page and include the article URL, the wording you believe is incorrect, an explanation of the issue and any reliable supporting source. Clear information helps us investigate quickly.
What happens next
- We locate the article and review the disputed claim.
- We compare it with the source originally used and any new evidence supplied.
- We decide whether the article needs a correction, clarification, update or no change.
- When a meaningful correction is made, we update the article and, where appropriate, add a note explaining what changed.
Different types of change
Small spelling, punctuation or formatting fixes may be made without a correction note when they do not change the meaning. A material factual correction—such as the wrong actor, date, relationship, quotation or broadcast time—may receive a visible note. Developing stories may be updated as new facts emerge; an update is not necessarily a correction.
Removal requests
We do not normally remove accurate published material merely because it has become inconvenient or is no longer current. We may consider removal or substantial revision when content creates a clear legal, privacy, safety or accuracy concern. Requests are assessed individually.
Fair responses
If an article makes a significant factual statement about an identifiable person and that person or an authorised representative provides relevant evidence, we will consider the response. Publication of a response remains an editorial decision.
